Recognition at ASPS Annual Convention in New Orleans

NJSPS Lobbyists Beverly Lynch and AJ Sabath, from the Advocacy & Management Group, were honored at the ASPS Annual Convention in New Orleans. Dr. Gary Smotrich, Council of State Affairs Representative (2014) and NJSPS President Dr. Valerie Ablaza, presented them with plaques in recognition of their work to rollback the cosmetic tax in New Jersey. Bev and AJ also addressed the Council on lobbying at the state level and the rollback initiative.

NJ Senate Recognizes NJSPS and Breast Reconstruction Awareness

This month, NJSPS President Valerie Ablaza, MD, and Past President Gary Smotrich, MD, were presented with the Breast Cancer Awareness resolution that was passed by the Senate this past October. Senate Majority Leader, Loretta Weinberg, presented the resolution to Drs. Ablaza and Smotrich on the Senate floor of the New Jersey State House. NJSPS worked with resolution sponsors Senate President Sweeney and Senate Majority Leader Weinberg to include a line item within this resolution recognizing October 17, 2012 as National Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day. BRA Day is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access regarding post-mastectomy breast reconstruction.

Breakfast with Allergan

On Tuesday, September 4, NJSPS President Valerie Ablaza, MD; President Elect Gregory Greco, DO; and Past President Peter Hetzler, MD, attended a breakfast hosted by Allergan at the Bridgewater Marriot Hotel. Allergan sponsored this breakfast in order to thank NJSPS, Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union) and other members of the medical community for their persistence and dedication to rolling back the cosmetic tax in New Jersey. Allergan CEO, David Pyott, hosted the breakfast and personally thanked members of NJSPS for their hard work and valiant efforts on this measure. NJSPS President Ablaza presented Mr. Pyott with a framed picture of the New Jersey State House and plaque to acknowledge the joint effort between NJSPS and Allergan that ended the tax on cosmetic procedures in New Jersey.
